The album One A.M., by Diverse, was recommended to me a few weeks ago and, at the time, I thought he was a new up-and-comer. Not so, my treasured friends; this cat has been around for oh, some time. His album One A.M was released in 2003, but it’s new to me.
I don’t know why this guy hasn’t gotten more love, but that’s just the way it goes, I guess. I liked this album. It has some impressive turns of phrase, plush beats, and the whole thing flirts most heavily with the retro sounds (Shaft would be proud).
Best of all, Mr. Diverse is out of Chi-town, or for those of you who didn’t know, The City that Wins.
